Serve
- Server must be behind the out line in the back until they hit the ball.
- Ball has to be served overhand or underhand.
- Ball has to be visible to opponents before the serve.
- The served ball may graze the net but has to drop on the opponents side for it to count.
- Whatever side served the first game the opposite side gets to serve first on the second game.
- The first hit after a serve has to be a bump. You cannot set or spike a serve.
Scoring
- A point will be scored with every score of the ball.
- If the opposite side misses the ball, hits it out of bounds, or serves into the net, the other side will get the point.
- You play to 25 points on the first two sets. If you play a third set the game only goes to 15 points.
- You must win by at least two points.
Playing the Game
- The maximum hits on each side is three.
- A player may not hit the ball twice.
- Ball may be played off of the net.
- If the ball touches the boundary line it is in.
- If two players hit the ball at the same time, they may not hit the for the second time.
- You may not block a serve.
- You may switch people out, but they have to switch after a serve.
Violations
- Stepping out of the boundary line.
- Not hitting the ball correctly(carrying, lifting, or throwing).
College Volleyball
- You have to spend 75-80 hours a week practicing.
- College practices are intense.
- Travel time for competitions are longer.
Middle School Volleyball
- You spend a couple hours practicing. You usually have one practice a week, sometimes two.
- Practices are usually not intense.
- Travel time for competitions are less than one hour.
Things you should do or know
- Practice like you want to play.
- Know where the sidelines are.
- Stay positive if you don't do something right or hit it out.
- Never tip a bad set.
- Find out where you want to serve the ball before you serve.
What to wear to a volleyball game
- Don't wear slippery shoes.
- Wear your uniform and shorts.
- Put your hair in a ponytail.
- Wear a headband.
- Don't wear jewelry.
- Don't wear anything on your wrist.
What to bring to a volleyball game
- Extra pair of shoes for after or before the game(Sandals, Crocs, Slides, Flip Flops, Etc.).
- Water bottle or bring a drink.
- Money for snacks or drinks.
- Extra shirt for after the game so you don't have to wear your uniform.
