Wartime Crisis in the Third Reich

By the fall of 1944, the Wehrmacht was in a critical situation. It was a mere shadow of the ferocious force it was the summer before, during the time of the Allied invasion of Normandy. A percentage of its armored fighting vehicles, combat equipment, supplies, manpower, and morale had disappeared. Many of Germany's Panzer Divisions lost a numerous chunk of their tanks that they cannot be called "Panzer" Divisions anymore. The amount of German KIAs skyrocketed this year, most often resulting from the onslaughts of the events in France from D-Day leading up to the Falaise Pocket, that they barely escaped, and the devastating collapse of Army Group Center, due to Soviet Operation Bagration. =Creative Commons License
