When you hear the word knitting, you might picture old ladies with white hair, but did you know that in medieval Europe hand-knitting was done by professional tradesmen, all of whom were male? Today, almost all knitting is done by machine, but knitting by hand is a fun and satisfying hobby practiced by many people worldwide (OK, some of them are little old ladies with white hair.)
To get started, you just need two things: knitting needles and some yarn. I recommend that you start with simple straight needles in a large size (US size 10 or so), and any inexpensive worsted weight or bulky yarn.
