Step 1:

Clear out a dry circle-like spot on the ground.

Step 2:

Look for small sticks, twigs, and large pieces of bark. Tinder and kindling are the best types of fuel for a fire. Tinder is a easily combustible material used to start a fire. It can also be started in just a few sparks. Kindling is dry twings that can be set on fire easily when in contact of other lit kindling.

Step 3:

Gather your tinder material into a ball that is about 4 inches in diameter. Stack pieces of kindling together in a teepee-like shape around the tinder, with an opening on one side.

Step 4:

Build a fire-starter if you dont have a lighter. This is one simple way to make a fire starter. It involves friction. Dig a groove into a flat piece of softwood with a pocket knife or another sharp tool such as a pen, a rock, or a nail. Using a stick or small branch, plough up and down the groove to create friction and heat. After a few minutes, the heat will intensify and ignite the wood particles created by the ploughing motion. Add small peices of tinder at the end to heat it up and start a flame. If you have a lighter or matches light the bottom tinder.
