How to Surf

Alexander Alvarez

Introduction

Hi my name is Alex and in this web page I am going to try to teach you one of my fovorite sports, surfing.

How to Get Into Surfing

A way to get into surfing is to maybe watch some surfing videos or watch some surfing toutorials and of course if you want to get into surfing you have to actually surf in real life. A place with small waves is good for begginers. Some places in Santa Cruz where there are waves that are small and there are some good surfing instructors there as well.

Types of Boards

Some boards I would recomend for begginers is the wavestorm, this board is good for begginers because it is a foam board, the foam on the board makes it hurt less because if it hits your head then it won't hurt as much. If you get good at surfing then I would recomend hard boards so you can go catch bigger waves. The boards on this list will be the boards from begginer to advanced.

  • Wavestorm (foam boards)
  • hard long boards
  • short boards
  • You might be thinking, Alex why are short boards last when they are smaller and look eseier to paddle, well guess what your wrong, because it actually will make it harder to padle on to the wave because your weight will push the board down further into the water so that creates more drag in the water witch will slow you down but when you do catch a wave with a short board then it will take you for one hell of a ride. Now I will explain to you why the long boards are easier to catch waves on because the long boards have a lot of foam in them so the board can float very well so that makes the board very hydro-dynamic witch can make the board go really fast through the water witch makes it easier to catch a wave.

Cool Tricks You Can do While on a Wave

There are many tricks you can do while surfing but they all recuire a lot of skill, so here are some tricks you can do:

  • Curve: Going up on the wave and coming back down.
  • Going fin first: Paddling on to the wave with the back of the board going first.
  • Catching air: Going up to the top of the wave and coming back down.
  • 360: It's when you go to the top of the catch air and in mid air do a 360.
  • Big Wave Surf Spots (pro's only!)

Here are some big waves and where they are located

  • Jaws: Hawaii
  • Nazare: Portugal
  • Pipeline: Hawaii
  • Mavericks: California
  • Those are some big waves around the world that only the best will take on but there are also some more medeium waves that can be a lot of fun to ride on.

    Conclusion

I hope that you enjoyed this webpage and it made you get into surfing.
