Quarterback Mechanics

Grip

grip

As a quarterback you obviously have to be able to throw the ball besides being smart, and it all starts with simply how you grip the ball. But it is not hard at all. But it is very important to be able to know to grip it and be able to do so very quickly. So as you can see in the picture you put your pointer finger above the white leather and from there your other fingers just fall into place.

How and where to hold it on your drop back and set up

After you get the snap from your center and you go into your drop back you need to make sure that you get the right grip with your throwing hand and have your other hand on the ball as well, so that you have control. And also make sure to keep the ball up so that a lineman or anyone else does not come up and knock it out of your hands.

The loading phase

When you see an open receiver and are ready to throw the next thing you have to do,which is the first process in your actual throwing mehcanics, is the loading phase. This is when you bring the ball back and up at a 90 degree angle with the ball facing the opposite direction than you are looking.

The throw and the release point

When you bring the ball forward you need to first make sure that your shoulders and feet are allighned to you target, make sure your knees are bent, and your wewight is on your back side. You need to make sure you do this so that you can make an accurate throw. Then bring the ball forward making sure that your elbow does not drop below your shoulder and the ball is a little behind your head so you can create whip. And as you are doing this you need to be pushing off your back foot, and keeping the front knee bent and make sure that it stays bent the whole time. And your release pint needs to look like it does i the picure on the right. And then you juist follow threw the throw and act like your are putting your thumb in your pocket.
