Hey! I'm your average middle school student who picked up an instrument just because my family told me to. However, over some time I actually grew to enjoy playing. I've picked up a few things along the way that could help another who is just beginning or even those who have had experience with the Ukulele. This website will include many of those things that I learned including, fun facts, basic information, things that you can get to help yourself, easy songs, types and recommended sizes, tips and tricks, the history and common questions. This website will not only include text but will also include a variety of videos and pictures to further explain any text for your convenience.
Even though the the state of Hawaii is most well known for their use of ukuleles and beautiful beaches, the original origin of the instrument is Madeira.
Ukulele translated means "jumping fleas", howvever, the last queen of the Kingdom of Hawaii, Liliuokalani, translated ukelele as “gift from afar”.
Early ukulele strings were made from cat or sheep gut. Most modern ukulele strings are now made of nylon, but you can still find earlier timed strings at specialty shops.
Ukuleles used to be a sign of Hawaiian royalty. They were used to preform at royal events and were not common amongst the average folk.
Theres a handfull of different shapes and sizes of Ukuleles, so try some out to find the best for your liking.
