Today, many people have taken kickers for granted, since they cannot successfully make field goals every time. But, kickers are also underestimated for their usefulness, as they often lead the league in points. Obviously, their job is to kick short to long kicks and make extra points after the offense scores a touchdowns. However, they must be careful if their kicks are blocked, which can be returned for a touchdown.
Simply, their main role is to punt the ball farther away from their endzone, if the offense failed to convert a first down. Punters with greater accuracy or power can give their opponents' more field position to work with. Just like their kicker counterpart, they must be careful if their punts are blocked, which can result into a short punt, safety, or a touchdown.
Any positions can return the kick or punt, if they have the speed and elusiveness, required. If they're fast enough, they can return the kick for a long gain or a touchdown.
Similar to a center, they are known to snap long passes to the kicking holder or the punter. However, they must be careful to not overthrow the punter or the holder, as it might result in a safety or at worst case, a touchdown.
