Here’s a short summary of Raybearer:

A girl is trained by her adoptive mother in a sci-fi and fantasy world to kill her best friend, a symbolic prince of the new world, but instead, she battles with her own demons. After all, why does he need to die anyway?

Here's a short review of the novel:

Raybearer was a strong book in every sense of the word. It was thick and heavy in its emotional punch, had a brilliant, glinting cover, and covered topics that I didn’t think it would dare breach. The novel starts off with the main character, who is just a cinnamon bun personified, because of her sweetness, innocence, and gentleness. There’s a harder edge to her, as the reader will find out later on in the novel, but for the most part, she’s a character the reader can’t help but root for from the sidelines. The way she tries to defy quietly makes her entertaining to watch, and the sci-fi world - still with hate and a caste system - was interesting to see through the point of view of this sweet protagonist. It was entertaining and a thoroughly good read.
