Here’s a short summary of Scythe:

In a futuristic society, humanity has conquered and solved death, leading everyone to be essentially immortal. However with food shortages and other cultural disasters present, the population must be controlled and maintained without natural death, leading to Scythes - grand, grim, and highly respected killers - who murder a sum of people every year to keep the society functioning and the population under control. Here's a short review of the novel:

Citra and Rowan were really interesting to read about with Citra’s slight anger problem and Rowan’s lack of caring, as he’s born in a family that doesn’t quite value him the way normal families are supposed to. The two of these characters are stuck in this dystopian, mildly sci-fi world that offered a lot of carnage and pain in exchange for immortality, but the way it was done was so eloquent and intriguing. I really loved how the novel pushed these two teenagers to the bounds of their abilities, allowing for some much-needed character development for Rowan, who later becomes just as hard and twisted as the society he lives on. All of the other characters I had mild opinions on, but they still shined when the plot knocked on their door and asked them to. I read this for book club, and I would rate it a firm four stars out of five.
