Here’s a short summary of Six Crimson Cranes:

In a parallel world, similar to feudal Japan, Shiori is one of the heirs to her father’s throne - coming after her six consecutive brothers. When tragedy strikes, the king is mystified by an ancient sorceress posing as his bride, and the witch easily curses Shiori’s six brothers into paper cranes. Shiori must travel out of the choking hold of the palace, find the freedom she was never dealt, and save her brothers from their papery prison - before the spell’s effects become permanent.

Here's a short review of the novel:

I was skeptical when I first read the summary, so I picked up the audiobook, which is the version I recommend for this novel. At times, Six Crimson Cranes felt like a modern-feeling fairytale, set in a world full of wonder, splendor, and touches of magic. I liked the fierce bravery Shiori had throughout the duration of the novel and her tense but close bond with her six brothers, as well as her hatred towards her father. It was oddly engaging to read, and I felt some parts of the novel tape themselves into my mind, making me think and feel deeply. Its vibe was all cherry blossoms, snow-tipped mountains, and palettes of ink-black paint. I read this book with no expectations and came out, awaiting a sequel. I would give this book a hearty three stars out of five stars, taking away a star for the random talking piece of origami.
