Pollution is the introduction of a pollutant (a harmful or toxic material/contaminant) into an environment or area. These pollutants can cause cumulative damage to the environment and its inhabitants. Over time, pollutants will accumulate, leading to the death of wildlife and deteriorating living conditions for all life in the area. There are three main types of pollution: Land pollution, Air pollution, and Water pollution. Pollution falls into these three categories based on what is affected by the pollutants. However, certain actions or unhealthy environmental practices may cause multiple types of pollution. For example, a wildfire would cause ash and dust to enter the water and release multiple harmful gases, including carbon dioxide. Thus, two types of pollution would be produced: water and air pollution. Pollution is a Herculean issue of our time; it has caused the world’s vital resources like water to become dangerous to drink. It has also caused the air quality of specific regions and entire countries, like China, to steeply decline. In China, this has required certain regions to need oxygen masks to simply walk across the street. This issue has become a malignant global cancer at the heart of our civilizations that threatens not just the wildlife of the most afflicted regions and various endangered species but the entire human species and deprives our posterity of their basic right to clean air and water. It must be resolved.
