Musical Instruments
A musical instrument is a device that makes sounds through different methods in order to create music. Theoretically, any instrument that makes sound can be a musical instrument; however, it is through purpose that the object in question becomes a musical instrument.
A Brief History
Many common modern musical instruments such as the piano, trumpet, and violin, are appealing to the ear and very recognizable, but did you know that the earliest instruments were made for ritual purposes?
That's right. The earliest of musical instruments dates back to the beginnings of human culture. Most instruments were used as signals for rituals, such as a horn signifying a successful hunt, or a drum for a religious ceremony.
However, cultures soon adapted composition of music as entertainment. The first real instrument intented for music is disputed, although most scientists agree on an ancient form of a flute from over 60,000 years ago. As cultures conversed (with things like the Silk Road and such), musical instruments became more common and widespread.
However, from the 1750s to the 1900s, the classical period of music, many of the modern musical instruments that we know today have been created. Here are some of the most recognizable modern instruments:
