Overview Setting Up The Board Pawn Knight Bishop Rook Queen King

Bishops

Bishops are a chess piece located two tiles to the left and right of the bottom corners. They have a simple moveset and can be used effectively.

Moveset

Bishops can move anywhere in their diagonal line of sight. Their pathing is blocked by ally and enemy pieces. If the tile they move to is occupied by an enemy piece, the enemy piece is captured and the bishop will move to the tile. Bishops cannot move to the same tile as an ally piece. Since their movement is always diagonal, they will always move to the same color tile as the one they first started on.

Uses

Bishops can be used to apply pressure and protect your pieces. Because of their simple and board-wide range, they can easily move into position to pressure an enemy's high value piece/king or have an ally piece in their line of sight. Since bishops have a lower value than rooks and queens, the enemy will usually refrain from capturing a piece in the bishop's line of sight.
