Overview Setting Up The Board Pawn Knight Bishop Rook Queen King

Pawns

Pawns are a chess piece located in all 8 tiles of the second row. They are often considered the lowest value piece because of their limited moveset.

Moveset

Pawns have a very limited moveset. Starting from their original position, they have the option to move one or two tiles in front of them for their first move of that speicifc pawn. After the first move, they can only move one tile in front of them at a time. If there is a piece diagonally one tile in front of them, the pawn has the option to move into the diagonal enemy piece's tile and capture the enemy piece. If the pawn reaches any tile on the last row of the other side of the board, it can be switched out for any higher piece, including the queen, rook, bishop, and knight.

Special Move: En Passant

En passant is a special, but very situational move. When your opponent moves their pawn two spaces as their first move and the enemy pawn ends up directly to the left or right of your pawn, you have the option to capture their pawn and move diagonally forward in the direction of the captured pawn.
