Overview Setting Up The Board Pawn Knight Bishop Rook Queen King

Rooks

Rooks are a chess piece located in the bottom corners of the board. They have a simple moveset and can be used effectively in most situations.

Moveset

Rooks can move anywhere in their horizontal/vertical line of sight. Rooks can be blocked by both enemy and ally pieces. If the tile they move to is occupied by an enemy piece, the enemy piece is captured and the rook will move to the tile. Rooks cannot move to the same tile as an ally piece.

Uses

Since their movement is linear, they are typically easier to use and position than bishops. They can get to the places they need to be quickly. Because of their board-wide range, they can move from one side of the board to the other very quickly, and can easily put an unprotected enemy king in a dangerous spot. Similar to bishops, they can protect an ally piece and quickly capture an unprotected enemy piece if given the chance.
