Overview | Setting Up The Board | Pawn | Knight | Bishop | Rook | Queen | King |
---|
The chess board is an 8x8 board with a total of 64 playable squares. On each side of the chess board, numbers and letters are visible, which act as x and y axis markers. The numbers go from 1-8 and the letters go from A-H. These are often used to refer to a specific tile on the board. For example, A1 refers to the bottom left tile and H8 refers to the top right tile.
To set up the board, rotate the board so that a side with letters is closest to you. Place the two rooks on the bottom left an bottom right corners. The knights should be one tile to the left/right of each rook and the two bishops should be one tile to the left/right of the knights. If your pieces are white, place the king one tile left of the right-most bishop. If your pieces are black, place the king one tile right of the left-most bishop. Place the queen on the remaining tile in the back row. Place all 8 pawns in the second to back row. Reference the picture to the right if unclear.
