Why Dancers are Athletes

  • A lot of people have said that dancers are not athletes, and that dance isn't a sport. The reason why you think that, is because when we go on stage, we have to pretend that everything is fine, and that nothing hurts. But really, our leg is all the way up in the air at a 180 degree angle, and our feet are squeezed into a tiny shoe, that is made out of wood. Our feet have millions of blisters, and we have to hold every single muscle of our body, just to look like nothing hurts, and to make ourselves look perfect.

  • We also have to have a very good mindset. Even though the girl over there is more flexible, is stronger, and more graceful, we have to rememeber that dance is an indivual sport, and thinking about that won't make you better. That is why so many dancers quit when they are 7-13. Because it's playing tricks in your mind. A lot of dancers think that the answer is to just starve yourself. But it's not, it's just going to make you worse. And because it gets to hard there are so few dancers who dance professionally.
