Amber's fiery red hair spill over her shoulders as she lets her poinytails down. Her loose curls bounce as she sashays her way towards me, her short red skirt twirling around her tone legs. The sensation of her warm hand on my neck snaps me out of my thoughts. Looking up, her amber eyes are fill with excitement. I can't help but to smile as she beams at me brightly.

" Tonight is the full moon and my mom has finally gave me the Book of Shade," Amber rushes out.

" Oh ... Cool," I respond nervously.

Since we were kids, we've been able to use magic but as we got older she became increasingly interested in dark magic. On the other hand, I still study and practice magic from the Book of Light. Though I never confronted her about it, I fear dark magic was beginning to influence her more than it should and I didnt trust her not to cast a dark spell during the eclipse tomorrow. It's during the blood moon when young witches like us are able to cast more powerful spells. But all magic comes with a price.

"Earth to Anita", Amber shouts while snapping her perfectly manicured fingers in front of my face.

"Clearly you have other things on your mind, so I'll talk to you during study hall. Meet me on the thrid floor."

She leans over and kisses me on the cheek, missing my lips by two inches. I blush furiously, and cant stop but to watch the sway of her hips as she walks away.

Walking to English class, I contemplate on Amber's increasingly affection toward me. Since 4th grade, I've had a crush on her. Hell, a lot of us did. I even asked her on a dathe in 9 th grade, but was friendzoned and I eventually began to see her as just a friend. Yet, as senior year went on, Amber began to hold my hand in the hallway, blow rasperries in my ear, play with my hair and a few times, like today, would kiss my cheek before walking away. I also her catch staring hard at my necklace around my neck until I catch her attention. She's been acting weird but I can't decide if it's something I should be worry about.

Maybe it's the red moon.

The bell for study hall rings and I hurriedly make my way to the thrid floor stairwell. It didnt occur to me at the time but the fact that Amber wanted to meet in the abandoned part of the school is strange. After too many terrible, "accidents", and suicides, this section of the school was shut off.

Stopping in my tracks, uneasy fills my entire being. Suddenly, the hallway becomes extremely hot. Sweat begins to build under my arms and drips down the sides of my face, staining my collar. The air starts to feel heavy. My legs begin to move on their accord, as if they know where to go. Eventually, I realize I'm walking towards the bathroom, the one where a girl died trying to summon Blood Mary. The closer I get to the door, the warmer my pendent feels against the curve of my breast.

I stumble as I come to a stop infront of the door. By now, my pendent has become hot enough to burn, but I'm more worried about the sudden heat wave and what is waiting behind the bathroom door. My hands tremble as I wrap them around the doorknob.

"Dammit", I exclaim, wrenching my now burned hands from the red hot doorknob.

"Screw it!"

With the wave of my hand, the door fly opens. I dont use magic often in school, but something is clearly wrong

Stepping into the bathroom, a scream tears from my throat as I gape at Amber.

Amber floats a foot above the ground, with blood seeping from cuts in her wrist and forming a circle underneath her. A circle that's on fire. Spasms rack her body as her head flops from side to side, emitting a loud cracking sound througout the bathroom. Her feet kick rapidly underneath her, as if she's panicking. There seems to be some invisible force holding her off the ground.

Taking in a huge glup of air, I summon the courage to walk towards the fire, determined to not let my friend die. Raising my hands in front of me, I prepare to put out the flames but the chanting from Amber freezes me in my tracks.

Tears swell in my eys as I realize what she's done.

She summoned a commutationem demon.

Before I can call out her name, a feel a sharp pain above my heart, as if something is being carved in it. The scene before me begins to blur and my heads feels as if it's in a fog. My body feels like it's weightless and my eyes drift shut as I lose slowly consciousness. The last thing I see is Amber's eyes burning a blazing orange, like a flame.
