What is Organic Vegetable Gardening?

Organic gardening is a term that is used very broadly nowadays. Is it gardening with certified seed? Is it using organic fertilizers? Does it mean you have to compost? What is it?

For the home gardener, it means you rethink certain agricultural practices:

What About Organic at the Grocery Store?

Being an organic home gardener isn't quite the same as being an organic commercial grower. Can you follow similar practices? Sure! However, commercial growers have a number of limitations on them, such as having to use seed that is certified organic. In addition, there are organic methods that are acceptable for a commercial grower that still might be harmful to the consumer and the environment.

Why is Organic Better?

Growing your own food organically means you are in control of what you put into your body and how you treat your land. With all of today's health problems that are caused by what we consume and absorb, it's important to reduce the amount of contaminents we're exposed to. In addition, properly grown food has a higher nutritional value, which keeps us healthy. Our first line of defense is keeping our system running properly!
