My first name is Catherine, which originated in a few languages such as English, French, and Greek. Catherine derived from the Greek name Aikaterine. According to Behind the Name, Aikaterine could have possibly came from the name Hecate, the goddess of the underworld, witchcraft, demons, and tombs. Hecate has the opposite meaning of Catherine, which means "pure." In 1915, Catherine was the eighteenth most popular name. Interestingly, I think this meaning relates to who I am as a person.
