How Football Came Too!

The first game of "football" was played by Princeton and Rutgers on November 6, 1869, in each team there was 25 players and used a all that could not be picked up but it would be kicked or batted with the feet. The rutgers won 6-4 that day. Then on October 19, 1873 representatives from Yale, Columbia, Princeton and Rutgers met to make the rules of football, and the rules were as states. one, teams can only be 20 players at once and fields of 400 by 250 feet were specified. Harvard abstained from the conference, as they favored a rugby-style game that allowed running with the ball. After playing McGill University using both American for the first game and Canadian rules for the second one, the Harvard players preferred the Canadian style of having only 11 men on the field, running the ball without having to be chased by an opponent, the forward pass, tackling, and using an oblong instead of a round ball.
