The journey first started in the summer, where there eight memebers, most of them were novice to the summer program. Throughout the time spent in the small room of the main building, which hosts numerous departments, but this program dedicates its time and efforts to teaching the young residents of this county to thrive on new knowledge. Not only knowledge, but fundamental skills of leadership. Where I believe its crucial for the development for this community. Also a crew, we experiene many life lasting memories. As we were able to communicate to mentor who are knowlable on their professions.
The program isn’t just about learning; we also engage in fun activities like a field trip to Rutgers, a prestigious university in my eyes.
As the last thing to do for the program, there was a mandatory project. Every member had to contribute to chose a deperarment to assist with, in terms of involvoing with technology. As a result of this, a majority decision rose from the members to assist the children of the organziation to teach them simple coding skills in a form of a game. The event took place in friday of August 9th.
The primary goal of the coding mini camp for the children attending this camp was to ignite their curiosity and passion for coding. By introducing them to the basics of programming, we aimed to inspire them to pursue further learning in this field and potentially consider a future career in technology. Just like with any new subject, it’s essential to start with the fundamentals and take small, manageable steps. This approach helps build a strong foundation and gradually increases their confidence and skills in coding.
We were thrilled to see the smiles of the children the moment they first came into the room of the lit program. As the crew dicussed behind the scenes, it would best for everyone to break the ice after a brief introduction to us.
We introduced the world class ice breaker which was a bingo. However for this bingo every is the winner as we desire to create a eviroment full of hope and dreams not despair.
After the we came into a conclusion from the bingo, the atmosphere of the room became more energetic. But it was more expected from a group of children. We introduced them to the coding mini game, where was based on pirates. Which inspire to the pirate theme room. Extra members who wasn't active at presenting the game, were silently helping the children if any troubles rose. Fortunalely, it went smoothly without any issues.
As a result of this lively event, the whole crew of the summer program were glad to offer their help to the summer during the activities and games. It was evident that the children had an amazing time throughout the event, as they were bursting out smiles. We only hope that this event has spark a light in their lives to seek out for more knowledge, and hopefully join the lit program in the future.
As with every story, there is a beginning, but there is always an ending, no matter what. Sadly, this too has an ending. After the event concluded, it was noticeable that the crew of the lit program had grown in ways that couldn’t be described unless you were there to experience it.
As for me, I can say that I grew in ways I didn’t realize I would. Managing the program and being part of the design team was a challenging journey, as my crew and I had to put all our efforts into the project. I discovered new skills that I hadn’t utilized before, such as leadership and team building. As long as the children had a fun time, that’s what matters to me. It makes me feel that I accomplished the goal of the project.
