Anime is a form of Japananese animation based on popular Japanese Manga(their form of comic books). If the manga becomes popular enough it can then begin the animating process because it garuntees that poeple will actually watch it. Animating is hard work so people raher not waste rescources.
Anime can be watched on many platforms mainly Crunchyroll which is an Anime specific streaming service, but they can be found on other sites and even Netflix.
