Arc de Triomphe was built between 1806 and 1836. Napoleon wanted to honor the Grande Armee (the name of the french army) there. The construction stoped between 1814 and 1826 because of Napoleon. It costed the citizens of Paris 9.3 million dollars to make the Arc de Triomphe at that time.
Eiffel Tower by Nextvoyage from PEXELS CC0
In the French Language the Eiffel Tower is called, La tour Eiffel. The tower was designed as the centerpiece of a 1889 world fair, and to show their power of engineering an building. It took the French, 2 years, 2 months, and 5 days to build. Made with 7,500 tons of iron and 2.5 million rivets. At the top yopu can see all of Paris! Since the opening of The Eiffel Tower in 1889, the tower has welcomed 250 million people and still welcomes 7 million visitors today! There was a mini apartment that Gustave Effiel ( the designer/maker of the Effiel Tower ) made for special guests like Thomas Edison.
The massive iron structure is wind resistant and will sway during a storm. If the weather is bad enough, it can even move. Wind isn’t the only thing that can make the enormous Tower move, though—the heat of the sun also affects the Tower, causing the iron to expand and contract up to 7 inches.
There’s a military bunker underneath the Eiffel Tower. Underneath the Tower’s south pillar sits a snug bit of history—a secret military bunker that may connect to the nearby Ecole Militaire via a long tunnel. The bunker has now been turned into a small museum and tour groups can explore the diminutive space.
Every seven years, around 50 tons of paint are applied to the tower. It not only keeps the so-called Iron Lady ( La dame de fer ) looking good, but it also helps keep the iron from rusting.
