This boss is probably the third or fourth boss you will fight in terraria. He is summoned by talking to the old man at the dungeon's entrance at night and selecting "curse". This cannot be done durring the day, and if You have less than 300 max life or less than 10 defense, the old man will tell you not to summon skeletron. You still can, but if he tells you this, you are probably not ready. If you have 300 or more life and 10 or more defense, he will ask you to fight him.
To defeat this boss, I would suggest you use at least full shadow/crimson armor. For a weapon, you should use a boomstick with the unreal modifier (the modifier is not nessecary, but it helps) and 1 stack of musket balls or silver bullets. DO NOT USE METEOR SHOT! Using meteor shot will mean only one bullet does damage. Several platforms on top of each other helps too. If you are in expert mode, destroy the arms first.In expert mode, the head has 100 defense until you destroy both arms. This means most weapons pre hardmode will do 1 damage per hit.
