Skeletal Structure

A bat's skeletal structure is very complex. Bats have many bones, especially in thier wings. Without some of these wing bones, bats would be unable to fly. There are 206 bones in a bat's body

Facial Structure

A bat's facial structure varies from species to species, but the generally have many curves and contours so the can sense their echolocation sounds being bounced back. Also to help with this cause, All bats have large ears.

One exception to these features is the fruit bat. The fruit bat has large eyes and small ears. It as large eyes to help it see in the dark. Scientists believe fruit bats may not use echolocation.

Wing Structure

A bat's wing structure is mostly just a strechy membrane that goes across the bones. This membrane is called the patagium. When a bat moves its arm , the membrane catches the air and pushes it out and away from the bats body, allowing it to fly.
