Hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things to do in all of sports. The average fast ball is around 91-93 miles per hour. The ball is thrown from about 60 feet away. What I mean by about is that every pitcher is different, some have long arms and some have short arms so the release point is always different changing the distance to the plate. Moving on, the ball takes about 0.4 seconds to get to home plate. Then you have to take into account for how long it takes the batter recgonize if the pitch is a strike and how long it takes them to swing. Therefore, the batter has only about 0.1-0.2 seconds to react. Now that the player has hit the ball the hardest part has begun.
Now, in order for the player to have a good hit they have to have a good swing and have the right launch angle. Launch angle is actually really important because without the right launch angle the ball won't go anywhere.
Pitching might not seem that hard but once you take a deep dive into the science behind pitching it will seem really hard. The image to the right Shows the movement of the knuckleball(the hardest pitch to throw). It is really hard to get a pitch to move. You have to take into acount gravity and the grip of the ball etc. If you don't get a pitch to move very well it will move very slow and will not trick the batter causing a good hit. But every pitcher has to watch how much they throw these pitches because the way pitchers release the ball can put a lot of stress on the elbow. To much stress on the elbow can tear a ligament in the elbow(shown in image below) causing an injury called tommy john. This is the worst thing that can happen to a pitcher as one they have to get surgery and two it can take up to 2 years to recover from tommy john.
