The LIT Summer Camp, (Latinos in Tech) is a PRAHD funded summer program where young Latinos in our community gather to learn about technology and innovation. The LIT program offers rigorous hands-on experiences, workshops and networking opportunities with mentors in real life tech industries!
Not only does this program offer valuable technical skills, but it also fosters a sense of community and empowerment among scholars. It's an amazing way of connecting with others with similar backgrounds while learning about technology!
On Friday, August 9, 2024, the LIT Summer Camp collaborated with the "Camp By The Bay" Summer Program, where LIT scholars taught and mentored young minds how to code using step by step coding blocks. LIT members introduced the fun and easy-to-use coding game "Pirate Plunder". The main goal of this game is to help navigate and guide a pirate through obstacles using coding blocks,with each level being increasingly more difficult than the last. Campers helped the make-beleive pirate find his treasure using the step by step blocks that effected the pirates actions. This easy yet fun coding game helped users:
The LIT Program collaborated with the "Camp by The Bay" campers to develop a wide range of skills that are valued both academically and professionally while also fostering creativity, collaboration and confidence. Pirate Plunder helped develop these campers problem solving skills and logical thinking abilities while also having fun!Even though this may seem like a simple workshop, the introduction to code to these younger kids can have a profound impact on their development. It not only enhances their creativity and problem solving skills, but also prepares them for a future were digital literacy is essential.By learning these basics of web design,children can express themselves in a new innovative way.
