One of the most important pieces of lore is found across 50 hidden "calcified fragments" located on the Dreadnought in Destiny 1. It is the best source of information that we have for the Taken and Hive. It tells the tale of Auryx, Sathona, and Xi Ro, the three daughters of The Osmium King, Leader of the Hive. Now two of those names might sound familiar: Auryx and Sathona. You might think that Auryx sounds like Oryx. Well, Auryx is Oryx-when he was a girl. Yeah, the taker of worlds and souls was once a curious female member of a small race of the disgusting race we know and love: the Hive. The other name is Sathona, and we know that name sounds oddly familiar to Savathûn from the strike "Song of Savathûn." The book effectively explains how Auryx and her sisters (yes, Oryx started as a female) trust the worm gods that live under their planet so that they can all follow their dreams by giving the Hive invincibilty powers as long as they keep their worms fed with kills. This tunrs them into Oryx, Savathûn, and Xivu Arath. They then turned their race into the Hive, found out why their world was going to end, kill Taox, the being who killed their father, and then the traveler goes to a planet right next to the hive, they get jealous and want to take the traveler's powers for themselves, so they atttempt to take over the galaxy literally ripping holes in space and time itself to make themselves their own throne worlds, Oryx has a son, and he also turns a wrecked spaceship into the dreadnought. Got all that? Yeah. Me neither. Anyway, the first chapter is in this next section, and a link to the entire book can be found here, on the Ishthar Collective.
Predators and Menaces — Carved to endure by Xi Ro — Third surviving sister of the Osmium King’s last brood —
A STORMJOY. A stormjoy is a living cloud. When it passes over our continent, it lowers its feeding tentacles. On each tentacle are the BAIT STARS. Although light makes you happy, you must avoid it. You will be eaten.
A stormjoy is a good way for an old person to choose death. Also, a daring knight can cut the bait stars from the tentacles. I have six!
FALLING. If you fall off the edge of the continent, you will die in the ocean! This is a special hazard when our father the Osmium King uses the engines.
HELIUM DRINKERS. The currents of the Fundament Ocean bring us near other continents. The Helium Court is near us now. They are of our species, but they are our enemies. Their knights raid us every day. Helium Drinkers have two legs, two arms, and three eyes, just like us. But they are bright/evil. I want to be a knight and fight them!
The Helium Drinker ambassador ate ten of my sisters as tribute. This is normal. However, I resent it.
MOTHERS. Mothers can fly! They live much longer than ten years. Mothers are extremely smart, and they guard their spawn. If you try to tamper with the eggs, they will eat you. Sathona wants to eat the jelly and become a mother when she turns four.
STORMS. The rain is often poisonous. Sometimes it dissolves flesh. When lightning misses the lightning farm, it can vaporize a person.
This entire world is deadly to us.
MYSTERIES. The Fundament is very large. We are the smallest things in it. If you don’t understand something, it will probably kill you. My teacher Taox says this is why we have such short lives. So we can breed and adapt quickly.
MOON WAVES. My sister Aurash is afraid of moon waves. When she gets back from her expedition to the Tungsten Monoliths, I will ask her why.
Now after reading this Grimoire card you might notice some references to the current race of darkness known as the hive. To me "MOTHERS" was the most obvious reference. Mothers can fly, breed, and protect the young. Just like everybody's favorite screamers, wizards. If you didn't know, hive wizards are all actually female. Why they call them wizards and not Witches is beyond me, but the lore is the lore. We also see that the card taks about young. Most people know that the thrall are the hive young, but less people know that ogres are actually deformed thrall. If you take a closer look at the head, posture, and general shape of the thrall, you can see that there are more than a few coincidences. Shi Kai Wang (one of the exeperienced artists for Destiny) even said that ogres and thrall are related, stating the following:"
