Parts of a Pointe Shoes
- The box- surrounds and supports the toes
- The vamp- the front part of the box
- The wings- the sides of the box
- The platform- the flat oval-shaped part at the tip of the shoe
- The shank- the inner sole of the shoe supporting the arche
- The elastic and ribbions-support the ankle and keep the foot in the shoe
How to Tie a Pointe Shoe
- Put the shoe on with the elastic wrapped around your ankle
- Take the inside ribbion and bring it to the outside of your ankle
- Continue to wrap the ribbion going in the same direction around your ankle until it reaches the inside of your ankle
- Leaving the ribbion there, take that outside ribbion and bring it to your inside ankle
- Continue to wrap that ribbion in the same directon around your ankle until it meets the other ribbion
- Double-knot the two ribbions together
- Tuck the knot into the rest of the ribbion
- Repeat on the other side
