I want to take a moment to tell you why we spend time learning technology in this class. I know that school can sometimes feel like a tug of war—on one hand, you don’t really want to do the work, but on the other hand, you don’t want to feel like your time is being wasted either - you want to be learning. I get it.
By the time you leave my class, I hope you:
Here’s the thing: learning anything takes effort. What you get out of this class (or any class) depends on what you put into it. I can teach you how to code, use Google Sheets, and improve your typing speed—but if you don’t try, it’s not going to stick. That part is up to you.
I know that practicing isn’t always fun. It can feel boring or like a waste of time. But the truth is, the only way to get better at something is through practice. Technolgy (typing, coding, etc) will only get easier if you actually put in the time to practice it.
Learning technology used to feel more exciting because using a computer felt special. Now, you’re on devices all the time, and honestly, there are probably more entertaining things you’d rather be doing. But technology is part of life now—it’s not going anywhere—and knowing how to use it well will make your life easier down the road.
Most importantly, I hope you leave my class understanding that you have the power to learn how to do almost anything if you put your mind to it. If you’re willing to try, to push through the hard parts, and to keep practicing, you can figure out almost anything.
