Ballet first began during the Renaissance, in the 15th century. King Henry II was the first to be introduced to it, by his wife. At first, dancers wore big, broad costumes but they were difficult to move in. Over the next 100 years, terminology and performances were more fully developed. By 1850, more ballets and pieces were choreographed and performed. In 1924, George Balanchine became a big choreographer in the dance world. Ballet has evolved into what it is today, with approximately 109 major companies in the Unites States alone!
This is a website all about ballet, including history, quotes, what makes up the dance form of ballet, and some famous ballets. Enjoy!
