Mount Wakakusa, also known as Mount Mikasa, is a 342-meter-high mountain located in Nara, Japan. Its name can be literally translated to "young grass".
On the mountain, there is an unobstructed view of Nara city (this is similar to our hill that we can overlook LA when standing on it!). The grassy slope of the mountain is lined by cherry trees that are usually in full bloom in early April.
Wakakusa Yamayaki is a traditional annual festival of Nara. It is celebrated on the forth Saturday of January. During the festival, the mountain slope would be set on fire and fireworks would be played. Most of the time, people from temples and publics would celebrate the festival together.
