My entire family has been born in Korea, and I'm the only one in my family that has been born in the US. My parents moved to America during the early 2000s. Besides us, the rest of our family is spread out South Korea. My grandma and great-grandma on my mom's side currently live near the city of busan. My Aunt, Uncle, and cousins on my mom's side live in the city of Jinju, along with my grandparents on my dad's side. My Uncle, Aunt, and counsin live near the city of Seoul, the country capital.
Everytime there is a special holiday in Korea, we're not able to celebrate with the rest of our family because of where we live. So when we get the chance, we call our families through the popular texting app in South Korea, Kakaotalk. as we talk to them, we call both sides of the family. Moms side and dads side.
Even though we can't meet the rest of our family, we aare able to celebrate with others that are also korean. Sometimes, people within our church would celebrate these days. And other times, we would tell our friends to come over and we get to just hang out for the day by playing games or just talking to each other.
