Apollo 11

Apollo 11, the first space mission to put people on the Moon, was launched on July 16, 1969. The flight of Apollo 11 was witnessed on television by hundreds of millions of people in nearly every part of the globe, until it fell in the Pacific Ocean on July 24.

Colonial America was a land settled by Spanish, Dutch, French and English immigrants who established colonies such as St. Augustine, Florida; Jamestown, Virginia; and Roanoke in present-day North Carolina.

Discovery of America

The explorer Christopher Columbus made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain: in 1492, 1493, 1498 and 1502. He was determined to find a direct water route west from Europe to Asia, but he never did. Instead, he found current day America.
