Nightmares... they're scary, but in minecraft, they aren't just scary, they're a whole other world with the purpose of giving a lesson to those who did bad things, but can also be accessed if you somehow got the attention of the freakmen. Freakmen are a civilization with a culture similar to ours, but they worship a god different from ours. They "appease" their god by looking for someone who did a bad thing or more, bring their consciousness to their reality and punish them by scaring them with what bad things they did but in a way to not harm them physically, and let them go if they have learned their lesson.
Freakmen are a VERY distant relative of endermen, which they are both dimensional classes. They travel through the minecraft dimensions for the following; looking for people with bad intentions, collecting rubies, and studying the nature of the world of Minecraft. Freakmen also make accidents, although in this part they haven't made any "big ones", they are punished with the same way they punish humans. Freakmen are the only mob in the Nightmare dimension with dimensional capabilities.
The Nightmare dimension's nature is peaceful, however it isn't for us. Biomes for punishment of the Nightmare world are as listed; Guiltful Groves, Slothful Snow, Lustful Caverns, Wrathful Wastelands, Jealous Jungles, Hungered Hollows, Greedy Ridges, Prideful Pales. Other Biomes include; sacred fields, flowering frights, freaky ruins, and Lightful plains. If a human learned their lesson but wasn't transported back into their world because they ran away, they might as well never return, and probably are not human anymore.
When travelling, Freakmen sometimes drop stuff in the overworld, and sometimes they drop important or dangerous things. But now, it has happened, The Big Mistake, a freakman dropped a chunk of light gel, at night, a night with phantoms. One phantom ate the gel, thinking it was food, but then a "conversion" occured, creating the frightlight, other phantoms attacked, also eating the light gel, and most converted, then a zombie attacked and ate it, and then frightfighters were made, wolves to scarehounds, slimes to fearmockers. The freakman that caused this was publicly executed, which was fair since The Big Mistake messed up the whole circle of life in the Minecraft world, even whatever god they worship must've been disappointed about this tragic event.
During The Big Mistake, a swamp near where it was occuring got contaminated with just 1 miligram of light gel, just 1 miligram, and every fish and frog was converted in that swamp. After the tragic event, the light gel decayed and left nutrients, it was now considered safe to drink and swim in, but the converted mobs have expanded to deeper regions of the ocean, leaving shallow oceans to be safe, but trenches to be dangerous.
People have encountered The Big Mistake, most didn't survive, while others escaped injured. Guardians from a monument found strange coral-like growths near trenches, all came back injured, any Drowned that went in the trenches never returned. Steve was the first to explore the trenches, he came back scared and horribly injured, saying that there are demons in the trenches, everyone believed him cause no fish could do that much, not even a shark could.
In one of the affected trenches, a sinkhole was made and flooded a cave, which was connected to an ancient city. When the sinkhole was created, some converted fish imploded from the pressure change, leaving their converted blood to contaminate the water in the new cave lake.
During the collapse, the sculk sensors activated to the sound of the water quickly flooding the nearby cave, which activated sculk shriekers, which then summoned the warden. The warden looked for the noise for about 30 minutes, which the reason it didn't go back after a while is that it sounded like a collapsing cave, which it hopes it isn't, but due to it being blind, it fell into the flooded cave. What was thought to be impossible to infect, got "infected", which the warden's skin started converting into the hollow which originated from the Nightmare world in the Hungered Hollows biome. the warden, which is now considered The Hollowed now, found its way back to the ancient city by digging, but once it got in contact with the sculk, the sculk slowly started to convert into the Hollow. The sculk fought back, but lost, leading to a new competitor for sculk.
The Hollow is an organism that is always hungry not because it is gluttonous, but because the more large it is, the more it has to eat to sustain every part of it. It constantly spews digestive acids even if there are no mobs nearby, which these acids can fermentate into a paranormal fluid called maloplasm, which is basically an evil version of ectoplasm, the Hollow uses it to maintain itself for a longer time. Sometimes, the acids will instead ferment into Maloresin, the raw mineral of Malocite, which if it can do that outside its home world, it means that it has learned to lure humans in.
Two gods, one representing the Sun and the other representing the Moon. Sol, the god of Sun, is the creator of the Sun, light, and fire. Luna, the goddess of Moon, is the creator of the Moon, eclipses, and night vision. They have temples with cults that worship them, they aren't evil in any way, they still follow some of God's ways in life, but they worship a different god or goddess. The Solists and Lunacists have a hateful relationship against the other but the same can't be said for Sol and Luna, Sol and Luna are actually like friends, which they used to have a human-like form, but now they are the Sun and Moon Minecraft has in the sky.
Freakmen aren't evil in any possible way, they are just here to keep evil and good balanced, which is what their god wants, which that god's name is Frightbringer. Frightbringer is the god of punishment, balance, and dreams, his dream world is one where evil and good is balanced and perfect, no mistakes or corruption. the Freakmen have tried their best in giving a lesson to those with bad intentions, they do succeed in making their god happy, but sometimes they fail and disappoint their god by either failing to give their lesson or accidentally let their victim run away before they could transport them back. Freakmen now are anxious that they might've caused a forever broken circle of life and their god is mad at them, but Frightbringer isn't mad, but is scared but also curious to see if the humans can kill the frightmare's invasion.
