Arrival at a new land

The journey to America began on three ships: Godspeed, Susan Constant and Discovery. They reached Jamestown on May 13, 1607. The colonists settled in a land they called Jamestown, named after King James l. They picked this land because it was sorrounded by water making it easy to defend.

The Virginia Company elected 6 leaders to guide the settlers on the journey to America:

1. Christopher Newport
2. John Martain
3. Bartholomew Gosnold
4. George Kendall
5. John Ratcliffe

And the most important one:

6. John Smith
