Who was John Smith?

Born around 1580, John Smith was an adventurer and a soldier. He was an admirl in Jamestown and later an author. Smith is so important because of his leadership helped Jamestown survive. In January of 1608, only 38 colonists survived because of the poor climate. He took control and with his strong leadership he made sure the colonists worked to survive. One of his most famous qoutes to make sure the colonists worked is ¨He that will not work shall not eat.¨ Smith ordered a wall to be extended around Jamestown and got more food by trading for corn with the Powhatan tribe. In 1609, Smith got injured by gun powder and had to return to England and on that same year, 800 more setters arrived at Jamestown.
