One of the very first women to advocate for women's rights in the United States was Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a mother from upstate New York. She worked with Susan B. Anthony for over 50 years to earn the women's right to vote. From July 19-20, 1848, she held the Seneca Falls Convention, the first women's rights convention, which she organized alongside activist Lucretia Mott. Sixty-eight women and 32 men signed the Declaration of Sentiments, which eventually led to the passage of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. This event inspired years of activism and Stanton's actions led to many other improvements in women's rights over the years.
