Basketball is a limited contact sport played on a rectangular court, most reguarly in two opposing teams of five, in which the objective is to land a ball in a hoop/basket. Once one team scores the other team gets the ball and drives down with a chance to score. If a team misses a shot, they attempt to get the ball back. If the team who shot recovers, they get another chance. If the defending team recovers, they get a chance on the opposite hoop. Teams can defend shots and steal the ball, but certain contact results in fouls and sometimes, free throws. Free throws are shots from a certain line, in which the other team cannot defend(see 5 and 6 in the diagram on Basketball Games). Teams score two points for every basket inside of the three point line, and three for shots made outside(also one for each free throw). The creator of the sport, James Naismith originally stapled peach baskets to poles as baskets and used a volleyball as the first basketball.
