Many people who have special needs children often send their kids to facilities for them to be treated and taken care of. However, do we actually know if they are treated in the way they’re supposed to?
Let's take a look at a popular home for the disabled called the Rotenberg center. (Link to the Rotenberg center)

1)The patients and children are being hidden away as well as the secret behind the treatment that they are going through.

Through the research which was conducted, we are able to see in full the harsh actions that could happen behind closed doors of these institutions. One of the most popular and infamous of these being the Judge Rotenberg Center. This center is meant primarily for those with severe autism but attempts to cater to those with a variety of disabilities (Elecric shock therapy)

2)This “therapy” is torturing the children against their own will or say and is abuse that continues to go on in many special needs homes.

Despite appearing friendly on their website, the accounts from patients and staff say the opposite. Patients are often put under electroshock therapy, which entails using a device to deliver intense electric shock to the patients. The level used on the children however exceeds the healthy frequency and voltage and no sedatives are prescribed. This leaves patients in intense pain with risk for brain damage. One patient described being shocked for nearly anything that was deemed wrong in an interview. Another student was able to visually depict one of the electroshock devices. This device would be strapped on the patient’s wrists, ankles, and torso and electric shocks would be delivered through there. The institution also denies the students adequate food and situations can turn towards physical and verbal abuse of the students

These videos demonstrate the true nature of the electroshock therapy conducted at the Judge Rotenberg Center. The boy was electrocuted against his own will, over a miniscule problem with his behavior. This is only part of the full exposition of the abuse conducted in the center.

3)It is shown that the children are being used for the wrong reasons and aren't being treated with the respect they deserve.

Post electroshock, a past student of the center depicted what he had gone through with a drawing. He depicted being strapped down on what was called a ‘four-point-board’ and proceeded to be shocked several times.

There are many attempting to bring down this wretched behavior and the therapies that go on inside of these homes with the help of different associations including the FDA and people around the world.

The FDA is putting out and attempting to confirm a ban on GED and ECT therapies but that ban has yet to be taken into effect. This has caused further exploitation of these methods for the sake of abuse under the guise of aversive conditioning. (Aversive conditioning: A form of therapy which uses negative association to eliminate a behavior. “In 2011 and 2012, the FDA put forth warnings to JRC, saying the center was not following guidelines in regard to GED. And, in 2016, the FDA put forth a proposal to ban GED, but the rule has yet to be implemented.”

Overall, our goal is to inform them that there are other choices other than some of these centers, and that the presence of their children in those institutions will make them worse, not better. You should research the institutions in order to determine if it is a good fit for your child. Some institutions try and cover up their abuses but with the help of others, it is possible to uncover those secrets.
