I know that there is indeed a big difference between hunting with you bow and target shooting with you bow, so I have decided to help explain the differences between the two.
This is a typical bow that you might see used for hunting. The only difference that you might see between it and a bow used for target shooting is the sight and stabilizer. The stabilizer of a target bow would be much longer, and the sight would have only one pin. Like how this picture will show.
As you might be able to see, the stabilizer they are using is a lot longer that the stabilizer of any other bow. But the style is much different. What I would say is that if you want to be a good shot, but don't want to kill anything, then target shooting is the way to go.
