As a child he grew up in Yugoslavia, a large nation that combined Serbia, Croatia (where my mom was born), Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Kosovo.
While he was growing up, Croatia started their war against Serbia (the leading country in Yugoslavia) and forced them to move and live in a hotel for a while.
He lived around the war and grew up playing soccer there as well.
As of last week, he announced his retirement at one of his games with Real Madrid.
