Coach Malik Goodman's Fundamentals of Computing Part 2

Overview

When teachers arrived on July 19th at the beginning of the '21-'22 school year, Mr. Schoolfield presented us with his ideas of an interdisciplinary unit. This interdisciplinary unit incorporated the 2020 Olympics. It was extremely fun to incorporate due to the timing of our "modified schedule" and how it aligned with the olympic schedule. Each teacher combined the Olympics with their standards.

I asked my 8th-grade Fundamentals of Computing class to combine the information within a webpage to present to the school and the public. Students were asked to show off their knowledge and understanding of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Stylesheet (CSS). This real-world connection

Principal of Edgewood Middle School, Mr. David Schoolfield, was asked to share his idea behind this unit. Schoolfield stated,

"It's very important for students to be able to see the connections of different disciplines within one unit of study. Information does not stay within a singular subject- it is woven together through multiple disciplines. Because the Olympic Games were timely with the beginning of our school year, they made a natural interdisciplinary unit for the school to be able to study and celebrate."
