The Development of BFDI and the Legacy of Total Firey Island

The Storyboards and Comics

Total Firey Island was eventually decided to turn into a Macromedia Flash 8 Web Cartoon. It wasn't until 2009 that the storyboards for Episode 1 were created. Tons of things that were in the storyboard didn't make the final cut, including an alternate ending to Part 1.

The Plot of BFDI Episode 1

All the contestants are introduced to us, and multiple contestants dislike each other. That's until a talking speaker box shows up and tells them about Dream Island. They all join the competition and are sent to a balance beam. All of them fall off except for Leafy and Pin, who win the challenge.

Leafy and the people who join her team choose Tennis Ball, Flower, Rocky, Needle, Teardrop, Golf Ball, Coiny, Teardrop, Needle, Ice Cube, and Snowball. Pin and the people who join her team choose Pencil, Match, Bubble, Pen, Blocky, Eraser, Spongy, Firey, and Woody. Leafy's team is the Squashy Grapes. Pin's team is the Squishy Cherries. Their challenge is to cross the finish line near the Goiky Canal. The Squishy Cherries build a large wooden container-like boat, while the Squashy Grapes make a motorboat. Unfortunately, only Coiny, Ice Cube, and Leafy are able to get on, as the others are too slow. Spongy weighs the ship down so the Squishy Cherries kick him off. The motorboat goes so fast that it misses the finish line. The 3 Grapes then start running towards the line, and the Cherries start swimming, Ice Cube nearly rips the ribbon at the finish, but Pen pushes her back. Pin is able to rip the ribbon and the Grapes lose and are up for elimination.

Flower gets the most votes, and the first voter to ever vote on BFDI is Jaysillyboy.

The Legacy

BFDI lived on with 4 more seasons, known as Battle For Dream Island Again, dnalsI maerD roF elttaB, Battle For B.F.D.I., and The Power of Two. There have been multiple videos on Cary's channel about Total Firey Island, where he showcases some of the books. Today, the 1st episode of BFDI sits at over 69 million views on YouTube, and the first episode couldn't have been created without the comics.
