1985-present

in 1985 nintendo kupi changed their name to nintendo and realeased their game changing Nintendo entertainment system (N.E.S). The N.E.S was an 8 bit console (number of pixels). The N.E.S was so important because in 1985 America was in a video game crash. Which means no one wanted to play video games. But nintendo changed all that with the N.E.S and it's packed games Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. Now people wanted to play video games again. N.E.S

S.N.E.S

but nintendo wasn't without compition. In 1983 sega realeased the Master System which was also an 8 bit console but that failed. So in 1988 sega released the Sega Genisis which was a 16 bit console, that means they were ahead of nintendo. So nintendo's response was of course to release the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991.

Path to N64

In 1994 nintendo got more competerors. sony had a deal with nintendo to make a disk drive version of the super famicon (was the S.N.E.S that was realeased in japan) but a day after nintendo announced the disk drive super famicom they said they were breaking their partnership with sony to partner with philips instead, however they were going to use the same technology. Nintendo broke their partnership because sony and nintendo were unable to agree on how the revenue would be shared. So sony decided to make their own disk gaming console to compete with Nintendo.

N64

In 1994 Sony made the ps1 (play station 1) . The ps1 was the first 3 dimentional console and the first disk using console ( the S.N.E.S disk drive was never realeased). So Nintendo realized that they had to make a console to compete with the ps1. They realeased the N64 in 1996. The N64 was 64 a 64 bit console (3d). The N64 had games such as super smash bros, mario kart, super mario 64, legend of zelda ocorina of time, legend of zelda majora's mask, etc. But the N64 didn't use disks it used cartreges still, most likely because disks were slower than cartreges but had more storage. There was still another competetor sega made a 32 bit console the Sega Saturn in 1995
