Abner Doubleday was a Union army general in the Civil War. He fired the first shot in the defense of Fort Sumter. He also had a pivital role during the battle of Gettysburg. Abner Doubleday invented the game of baseball in 1839 Cooperstown, New York. Doubleday never knew that he had created America's pastime. Though some say that baseball was actually created in England and was brought over to the U.S. and was mentioned in books. Though most still believe that baseball was invented by Abner Doubleday.
