Pointe is a very pretty form of ballet. Pointe is started when a dancer is around age 12 and the growth plate in the ankle is fully grown. Pointe takes extreme stregth in the dancers legs and core muscles for balance. The dancer performs this genre danceing on a wooden box, on their toes within the shoe. Pointe slippers are a pink satin shoe with a satin ribbon to tie around the ankle and elastic to hold the slipper to the foot. Pointe dances are very beautiful and graceful on stage. However, the dancer exibits great pain when training and performing from their toes, ankles, and legs as their body weight is carefully balancd on the small wooden box in their shoe.

Jazz shoes are like a ballet slipper but are typically black or tan. The heal of the jazz shoe is slightly higher than the sole or toe of the shoe. The shape of the shoe is designed to keep your balance on your toes verses your heal. It also allows the dancer to maneuver specif moves and turns such as a pirouette (turn or spin on one foot).
