In our world, a lot of people find difficulty getting the nutrition they need. Areas with a surplus of these people are called 'Food Deserts', and they're all over America. For seniors, children, and infants, living in an environment like this could be life threatening. Everyone needs fresh, healthy food to live an abundant life, but if you like in a Food Desert, the food needed to stay healthy might seem to be a world away. Today, there are tons of communities that are working to stop this problem, but many of them can't keep up with the demand.
Lacking the nutrition you need can lead to the failure of organs, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and other diet-related issues. Through this, food scarcity can cause medical bills to stack up, and families can drown in debt. In the worst case scenario, debt can travel through generations and keep the cycle going.
Solving the problem isn't as simple as it sounds, however. Just placing grocery stores down and adding public transportation can only help so much. After someone's lived in poverty for a long time, they might not be able to afford the groceries they need to feed themselves and their families. Like I mentioned, poverty can pass down through generations, and even if someone did live in a community where they had access to fresh, healthy food, they might not be able to afford it.
That's where food banks come in. However, while there are over 200 food banks in the United States, people still go hungry. This is why people like you should always look forward to helping those around you. Even if you donate .50 cents, you could help feed a family that hasn't had a good meal in a long time. Sometimes, in order to have the biggest impact, you need to put in a small effort. If you want to help, volunteer at soup kitchens, or if you can, make meals yourself to distribute to anyone that might need them. Always treat others how you want to be treated!
